PERCY JACKSON AND THE LIGHTNING THIEF

Percy Jackson andthe Lightning theif is for you if you are into mythology !!!!

It is the first book in the pentalogy written by Rick Riorden, one of the few bestselling series written by him till date.
In this book a 12-year-old demigod named Percy Jackson lives in New York with his mother and stepfather who abuses his mom. He never knew much about his birth father who supposedly died when Percy was young. During a field trip to a museum, Percy is attacked by a "Fury" disguised as his Pre-Algebra teacher, Mrs. Dodds, and he causes her to vaporize using a sword given to him by Mr. Brunner, his Latin teacher. At that time he has absolutely no idea what was going on and to add to his suspicion, after Mrs. Dodds is killed, no one from his school remembers her, yet she is known by Mr. Brunner.
One day, when Percy gets frustrated from studying for his Latin exam (Percy, has both ADHD and dyslexia), he goes to Mr. Brunner for help, and overhears a conversation regarding his safety at the school between his teacher and his best friend, Grover.
At the end of the school year, Percy leaves the boarding school for his home when Grover insists on seeing him to his destination although Percy abandons him and takes a taxi up to his mother's apartment after they reach their stop. Percy's mother, Sally Jackson, tells him that the two of them are to spend time at a cabin in Montauk, a beach Percy had gone to when he was younger. One night while at the cabin, Grover comes in and reveals himself to be a satyr then he warns the two of them to leave immediately.
His mother drives them to Camp Half-Blood, a safe hideout for demigods, where no monster can enter its bounds. Before reaching the camp, they are attacked by the Minotaur. They reach the border, but Sally is transformed into a shimmer of gold and dissipates after being attacked by the monster. Fueled by his anger, Percy tears off one of the Minotaur's horns and uses it to destroy the beast before passing out from exhaustion. When he wakes, he finds himself at Camp Half-Blood and sees Mr. Brunner, who turns out to be a centaur named Chiron, along with Annabeth Chase, a daughter of Athena, the Goddess of Wisdom. He comes to know that the Greek God really do exist in the modern world and that the child of a demigod and human is a demigod, possesing the powers of both normal people along with thier godly parents power. He also learns to be wary of monsters who are rivals to demigods.
After a few water related incidents, Percy is soon claimed by his Olympian parent, Poseidon, the God of the Sea. Everyone is astonished by this fact becaue the Big Three (Zeus,Posiedon and Hades) vowed not to produce any demigod children of their own. He then is accused of stealing Zeus' master lighting bolt. Although Percy insists that he is innocent, Zeus refuses to believe him. After visiting the Oracle, Percy, Annabeth, and Grover go on a quest to retrieve the lightning bolt, which they suspect is in the underworld. As they travel to the Underworld they face numerous mythological monsters. They unsuspectedly meet up with Medussa who atempts to turn them to stone, but they succeed in cutting of her head before that which he "iris messages" to the Olympians. He also fights a few other monsters as well. He also gets stuck in the Lotus Casino in which paople who enter get engrossed in the games there and lose a track of time. With luck he is able to escape that place.
The trio come face to face with Hades, who does not have the bolt and reveals that his Helm of Darkness has also been stolen. Hades also blames Percy for stealing his helm and wants to kill Percy and his mother and release all the dead back into the real world. They use magical pearls, a gift from a Neried(a water nymp), to save themselves from Hades He then discovers  that Ares ,the God Of War has the bolt. Percy challenges Ares to a duel and wins and they retrieve the stolen items. They revisit Lord Hades who realizes that Percy did not steal his helm of darkness, so he returns Sally safely . During the quest Percy and Annabeth become friends even though their parents are rivals.
After that the bolt is given back to Zeus. In the end, they learn that the real thief was Luke Castellan, a son of Hermes, god of messengers, travelers, and thieves and the camper who had befriended Percy when he first arrived at Camp Half-Blood. He had stolen the bolt to allow Kronos, the King of the Titans, a chance to rise again. Before leaving the camp, Luke tries to kill Percy using a poisonous scorpion, which Percy kills after Luke left him with it and Luke dissapears. Before leaving Percy in the forest to die, he says that his father, or any other god for that matter, does not pay attention to there kids, which is why he hates all gods and has choosen to side with Kronos.
Percy gets an option to either spend the whole year in Camp Half Blood or spend half the year there. The story ends with Percy deciding to spend the school year with Sally and when he goes back he turns his stepfather into stone with the head of Medussa.

DIVERGENT

This book can change your whole perspective of reading books!!!!!

The book Divergent by Veronica Roth is the first book in the trilogy. It is a fiction and adenture book.
Want to know the story????
In the future, the citizens of Chicago live in a society that is divided into five factions, each one meant to uphold a particular virtue of humanity: Abnegation (the selfless), Amity (the peaceful), Candor (the honest), Dauntless (the brave) and Erudite (the intelligent). On a given day each year, all sixteen-year-olds take an aptitude test that will tell them which faction they are best suited for, after which they must decide whether to remain with their family or transfer to a new faction.
Sixteen-year-old Beatrice Prior was born into an Abnegation family, but selflessness has never come naturally to her like it does her brother, Caleb. She feels lonely and constricted by her environment and feels like she doesn't belong. When the time comes for Beatrice to take her aptitude test, the results are inconclusive: she doesn't fit neatly into any one faction; rather, she shows equal aptitude for three—Abnegation, Erudite and Dauntless. This makes her "divergent" and she is warned never to share this information with anyone for fear of her life. The person who ran her aptitude test logs Beatrice in the system as having aptitude for Abnegation.
On Choosing Day, much to her and her parents' surprise, Beatrice makes the decision to leave Abnegation and join Dauntless while her brother Caleb chooses Erudite. She immediately leaves to join her new faction and her new home. Beatrice, who then renames herself Tris, becomes good friends with fellow transfer initiates Christina, Al and Will. Another transfer initiate, Peter, quickly sets out to antagonize her as he does not believe Tris is good enough to be in Dauntless. She is also introduced to their instructor, Four, who explains that they must pass an initiation process before they are accepted as full-fledged Dauntless members. They must rank in the top ten at the end of initiation, or else they will be dismissed and become factionless.
Initiation is broken into three stages. The first involves learning how to handle guns and knives as well as engaging in hand-to-hand combat. Despite being physically weaker than most of her fellow initiates, Tris finishes the stage in sixth place. Peter is jealous and intimidated by the first-place finisher, Edward, and retaliates by stabbing Edward through the eye with a knife.
Meanwhile, the Erudite stirs up dissent among the factions by releasing antagonizing reports about the Abnegation leaders, who run the city government. Peter and his cronies Molly and Drew give Tris a hard time because she came from Abnegation. She begins to befriend the Dauntless-born initiates, including Uriah, Lynn, and Marlene.
Stage two puts the initiates into simulations, much like during the aptitude tests, in which they will encounter various fears—or scenarios symbolic of their fears—and are tested by how quickly they are able to calm down. Because Tris is Divergent, she is able to recognize that she is under a simulation while others do not, and she can even manipulate the system. She is warned again to never let anyone know that she is Divergent, because those who are found to be Divergent end up being killed by faction leaders. At the end of the stage, Tris ranks first among the initiates. That evening, Peter, Drew and Al attack Tris and try to throw her into the chasm at Dauntless headquarters, but Four steps in and rescues her. Al begs Tris's forgiveness, but she rebuffs him, leading him to commit suicide.
The initiates prepare for the final stage of their initiation, the fear landscape, a gathering of all of their fears in a simulation in which they will be aware that they are under a simulation and must use the skills they learned in the previous stages to break out of each fear. They will be scored according to how many fears they have. Tris's relationship with Four continues to grow and he lets her into his own fear landscape. Tris learns that Four only has four fears in his landscape, a record, hence his nickname. She also learns his real name, Tobias, and that his father is Marcus, an Abnegation leader who physically abused him during his childhood. The romance portrayed between Tris and Four is very cute as both of them are from Abnegation and so they have never been involved in anyone before. Four later discovers- and tells Tris- that the Erudite are planning on using the Dauntless to launch an attack on the Abnegation sector. The reason being that the Erudite think that giving power to the selfless Abnegation is impartial. They themselves are power greedy. Four tells Tris how he thinks the people have diverted from their original path of factions when it was created and how they have morphed the rules to suite themselves.
Tris goes into her fear landscape for her final initiation test, in which she encounters a total of seven fears: getting eaten alive by crows, drowning while trapped in a glass tank, drowning in the ocean, being burned at the stake by Peter, being kidnapped by assailants, being intimate with Four, and being forced to shoot her family. After her test, Tris, along with all other Dauntless members, is injected with a new serum that supposedly tracks people in case they ever go missing. The final rankings are posted, and Tris is ranked first. In the midst of celebrating, Tris suddenly realizes that the serum will be used by Erudite to control the attack on Abnegation.
The simulation is enacted that night and all of the Dauntless become sleeper soldiers, hypnotized into marching on an attack of Abnegation. However, the serum does not work on Tris or Four because of their Divergence. They try to escape but are quickly caught and brought before Jeanine, the Erudite leader, who injects Four with a new, Divergent-friendly serum. She sentences Tris to death, while Four is sent back to the control room to oversee the attack. Tris is locked inside the glass tank of her fear landscape, but is saved by her mother, who is revealed to be a former Dauntless. As they escape, Tris's mother is shot and killed, and Tris is forced to shoot Will, who is under the influence of the serum. She finds her father, Caleb, and Marcus, and the group heads back to Dauntless to stop the simulation. Though her father is also killed along the way, Tris finds the control room and encounters Four, under the influence of a simulation that causes him to attack her. Tris cannot overpower Four, but she refuses to kill him and surrenders. This breaks through Four's simulation, and the two are able to shut down the Erudite simulation and free the remaining Dauntless from their mind control. They join Caleb and Marcus—as well as Peter, who helped Tris find the control room in exchange for his safety—and the group boards a train to the Amity sector to find the rest of the Abnegation survivors. The story ends with Tobias telling Tris that he loves her.
